Grower & Winemaker's Notes

Over the course of the 2003 growing season, 45% of the Zinfandel fruit grown on the Estate was “thinned” (dropped to the ground) in order to produce the aromatic intensity that lies inside. Harvest Moon employs an extensive canopy management program with the trellised 5 acre Zin block. This program includes spring suckering, leaf pulling, cane-positioning, fruit-thinning and bull-caning. Deficit-irrigation was also employed, whereas the vines received just the amount of water such that the vine didn’t begin to shut down.

Tasting Notes

This Estate single orgin Zin comes out swinging with intense candied, ripe red fruit aromas yet still exhibits the elegance of Russian River Valley fruit with a moderate body and lively acid structure. Thanks to lingering Russian River Valley morning fog, the 2003 fruit stayed cool at night and early morning thus retaining its natural crisp acidity while still enjoying very mature flavor profiles from the hot sunny afternoons. Drink now until 2018.
