Grower & Winemaker's Notes

The 2004 RandyZin is a compilation of 3 different wines grown from various regions in Sonoma County and Lodi. Two of the components were crafted by Harvest Moon and the other one was sought out from a friend in Lodi. Approximately 20% of the master blend came from a Cinsault/Carigane blend. The oak schedule was 25% new American-French UMX barrels.

To us, RandyZin represents our desire here in Sonoma County to truly enjoy life and not take ourselves too serious, yet still be able to “lasso the moon” when we are feeling frisky.

Feeling a bit Randy tonight?

Tasting Notes

Intense juicy red fruit aromas begin with natural bright acids and a velvety mouth-feel that offers a structural backbone that finishes with a chewy caramelly finish.

Tasting Update: Monday April 14, 2009 5:30-8:00 PM
"Color: medium density, pale red brick hue
Aromas: Initial toasted oak gives way to a pleasant earthy aroma found only in cellared wine. Wound-up cherry whispers from the glass.
Flavor Profiles: Spicy candied red fruit greets the palate in an upfront semi-aggressive style. Still tart, this wine needs some oxygen. Left cork out and went outside to work in garden.

...

Want a difference 78 minutes makes! Soft at its core yet still zinging with acidity around the perimeter of my palate, the fruit is much more approachable. My tastebuds feel like they’ve been drenched in glossy candied red wildberry. This is kinda an exciting wine to drink actually.

On the 3rd glass, this zin resembles a full-throttle big bodied California Pinot Noir.  Still really nice.

Expect another 3-5 years of beautiful cellaring. Fewer than 37 bottles available"  RP
