Grower & Winemaker's Notes
The Estate grown fruit was picked on the morning side of the west block and transported in lugs 500 feet to the crush pad where it was crushed, destemmed and pumped into ¾ ton T-bins. Two handfuls of light and medium French oak chips were added to each bin along with 150 ml SO2. The must was inoculated ½ day later with Assmanhausen Austrian yeast and fermented on the skins for 5 days where it underwent a vigorous punch down regiment for proper color and tannin compound extraction. Pumped into our 2 ton horizontal bladder press, the actively fermenting must was pressed hard at 3 bars to a 500 gallon stainless tank where it finished on the 14th day. We racked off the gross lees and splashed (oxygenated) the dry wine and added ml bacteria at return. Upon racking back, we filled a new Radoux UMX barrel and allowed the Zin to go through ml on new toasted oak. After cold stabilizing, the wine was polished filtered and brought to the sparkling house where it was introduced to the secondary fermentation slurry and bottled where it sat for 11 month on triage. The wine was finished with minimal residual sugar and 2% Zin juice dosage to allow true cool climate single-vineyard Russian River Valley terroir.
Tasting Notes
Our single-vineyard Russian River Sparkling Zinfandel is a unique expression of Method Champagne sparkling wine. With vibrantly electric hues of red, this exotic sparkling displays spiced aromas and tart cranberry flavors which evolve in the glass as it warms. The 15% new oak offers a warm caramelized finish esp. as the wine warms in glass. Harvest Moon recommends notched sparkling stemware for optimum sparkling performance.
This fun and festive wine is welcome at any table and looks great in the glass around the Holidays.
