Grower & Winemaker's Notes
Our inaugural vintage 2005 Sonoma Harvest is the beginning of an exciting journey that takes me each year to unique vineyards all over Sonoma County . The grapes were picked with lower sugars than normal (23 brix) so that pyrizine found in Bordeaux varietals could be captured in the grape at higher levels. This natural chemical offers Boudreaux blends a beautiful herbaceous character that, when balanced with oak can be quite appealing especially accompanied with dinner. Each wine was fermented and barreled separate for 20 full months in barrels in order for each varietal to offer a distinct layer in the wine once blended.
Tasting Notes
Desiring a Bordeaux-based red wine that exhibited balance was a motivating factor in seeking out great vineyards to compile this blend. With many of the “cult” red wines clocking in at rediculous alc. levels and viscously high ph’s, we wanted to offer a wine that my grandfather’s generation of winemakers were crafting. Shortly after bottling in August 2007, We participated in a winemaker dinner where chef John Alexander paired this young Boudreaux red wine on the 2nd course with a smoked trout salad and it was wonderful! We crafted this wine with your table in mind.
